I am fortunate that my wife works a union job that has had benefits for families negotiated with the company. The company benefits with very low turnover and greatly reduced training costs. The employees benefit with good health care coverage. I know that we are in a better position than many. We currently spend an inordinate amount of money on treatment rather than prevention. Universal health care with a tiered approach so it is not exactly a Canadian model seems to make social and economic sense. I hope this can be facilitated at a Federal level, but maybe it will start with more States doing something. This is not welfare as many say, rather it is removing exorbitant insurance company and health provider profits that do NOTHING to cover people. Also, it will reduce health care costs by preventing diseases rather than expensive treatment.
Jonalee and I have been married for 14 years. We have four children: Jenna, Sadie, Marianna, and Hayden. I graduated from Ellsworth Senior High School in 1992. I earned my Associates degree from Rochester Community College and then transferred to St. Cloud State University on a football scholarship. I graduated with honors from SCSU in 1998. I earned a Masters in Public Policy at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs in 2004. I am currently running for the state assembly seat in the 29th district of Wisconsin. I invite you to post a question or comment. I look forward to hearing from you.
